Algarve
The Algarve is blessed with superb beaches, unspoilt countryside and
countless restaurants for alfresco eating. For the sporting minded there
are a wealth of activities such as water sports and sailing, tennis and
world renowned golf courses. With more sunshine hours than anywhere else
in Europe, clean air and sea and a pleasant variation in the seasons,
the Algarve climate bears close resemblance to that of California.
Almancil
Almancil is the main town for the area known as ‘The Golden Triangle’
bounded by Vale do
lobo in the west, Quinta do Lago in the east and Almancil just to the
north.
Quinta do Lago
Quinta do Lago is a spectacular unspoiled 1700 acres of
natural pine forest, grassland and lakes. The area includes part of the Ria Formosa nature reserve and is fronted by a 10km stretch of golden
sands. There are four golf courses in Quinta do Lago and two more in the
adjoining Vale de Lobo. On the lake there is sailing, a
windsurfing school and watersports. Other amenities include an
equestrian centre, a golf driving range and a good choice of tennis
facilities including two professional coaching centres. There are
several routes to the beach but the most memorable is via a long wooden
bridge across the nature reserve: on the other side is a good
restaurant, golden dunes and the beach stretching as far as the eye can
see.
Vale do Garrao
Vale do Garrao is between Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo and the
beach here is considered the best for restaurants and beauty. The resort
boasts three 5 star hotel complexes including the new Spa Hotel whose
facilities are available to clients. The Vale do Garrao facilities
include a large communal swimming pool, children's pool and tennis
courts surrounded by attractive gardens. The beach is a pleasant 7
minute walk through the nature reserve and past the lagoon which hosts
an abundance of wildlife and birds.
Vale do Lobo
Vale do Lobo is the area of Portugal's largest luxury golf and beach
resort. Embraced by two national parks of outstanding natural beauty,
the 5 kms long golden sandy beach and impressive red
sandstone cliffs face south across the ocean. Vale do Lobo retains an intimate family ambience. It
is the recipient of a number of accolades and awards including the "Best
Resort of the Millennium" for the high standard of its accommodation,
services, sporting facilities, and concern for the environment. |
